4 books that changed my life

A Return to Love (Marianne Williamson): Several years ago I was sitting in my coaches kitchen and she pulled off a tattered book from the shelf and started reading. Within a minute we were both in tears. That book was A Return to Love. I send this book to my coaching clients, always recommend it when someone asks me about how to start their spiritual journey and reread it when I need to return to love. It is rooted in A Course in Miracles but explains the principles from the Course in a clear and understandable way. Here is the passage that brought me and my coach to tears:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

May Cause Miracles (Gabrielle Bernstein): Words can’t adequately describe how this book changed me. This book quite literally cracked me open. I categorize my life into two eras: before May Cause Miracles and after May Cause Miracles. And the two versions of my life couldn’t be more different. I found this 40-day guidebook by accident. I was scrolling on Facebook in the middle of the night to distract myself from my tears and chronic insomnia. I had never heard of Gabrielle Bernstein. I had never meditated. I had never explored self-self and spirituality. And I didn’t believe in miracles. But I ordered the book anyway and I’ve never looked back. Each day of the book guides you through witnessing your fear-based thoughts, replacing them with loving thoughts, forgiveness, gratitude, and developing a miracle mindset. I love this book so much that I was trained by the author and offer a 6-week coaching program based on the book! Learn more about this option here.

Love Warrior (Glennon Doyle): This book will slay you in the best way possible. It is – WITHOUT QUESTION – the best book that I have ever read. Glennon’s writing is completely exposed, painfully real and insanely relatable. Her words find their way deep into your bones causing you to feel what she feels. “Yes, my soul says, even though all I see is evidence to the contrary, I will believe I am worthy. I brace myself in case there’s a response. Yes, I say, once more, thank youConsider this my RSVP. Plus one. I would like to come back to life now, please.” This book will become a part of you. It will linger in your mind and – more importantly – in your heart.

White Hot Truth (Danielle LaPorte): This book was published at the perfect time. I had been feeling uninspired with my spiritual and wellness practices. And extremely guilty for being uninspired. I had gone from deeply connected to deeply disconnected. Which was concerning since my business is rooted in spirituality and wellness. Danielle’s words described what I was wrestling with and helped me process my disconnection and guilt. This book helped guide me back to my truth – the reason I started on this path to begin with. And helped me clear out all of the shoulds that had built up from years of attending workshops, listening to podcasts, reading books and blog posts, and following others leads. Once all of that noise was cleared out I was able to hear my truth – my White Hot Truth.
